February 2024 Student & Board Meeting Recognitions

Norco - This month’s Board Recognition took place on Tuesday, February 6th.

Congratulations to all of our wonderful students who were recognized for this month's Board of Education Student Recognition.

STUDENT RECOGNITIONS

The award recognizes students who have shown a high degree of achievement in academic work or a high degree of improvement in academic work, and/or students who maintain a high degree of positive behavior, and/or students who have altered a negative attitude about school and/or improved attendance.

SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS

During the Board Meeting, the Board of Education also presented the following Special Recognitions:

a. Thomas Salcida, Security Attendant at Sierra Vista Elementary School

b. Troy Pourchot, Roosevelt High School - 2024 California Council for the Social Studies Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year

c. 2023-24 Corona Norco Educational Foundation Grant Recipients

d. CTE Youth Apprenticeship

Matt Gonzalez, a Senior at Norco High School, is the first and ONLY Skilled Trades Youth Apprentice in the state of California. He has completed Introduction to Woodworking, Furniture Design History and Construction, and Advanced Cabinetry Design Classes. He is now enrolled in Industrial Wood 4 and Youth Apprenticeship. Matt works about 15 hours a week as a Youth Apprentice employee of WB Powell Inc. in Norco. His in-class instruction has been instrumental to his success in the apprenticeship.

Matt does all of this and maintains excellent grades. He will be enlisting in the Air Force upon his graduation and plans to use the excellent skills and experience to advance his career in the Air Force in the service of his country.
